APEDA (Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority)

APEDA registration, officially known as the Registration-cum-Membership Certificate (RCMC), is a mandatory authorization for exporters of "scheduled" agricultural and processed food products. Established under a 1985 Act, APEDA functions under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to promote Indian agri-exports, provide financial assistance, and set quality standards for international markets.

APEDA registration is a legal and commercial necessity in the following cases:

• Mandatory Export Compliance: Required for exporting any of the Scheduled Products listed by the authority, including fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy, poultry, biscuits, confectionery, honey, jaggery, and cereals (including Basmati rice).

• Customs Clearance: Customs authorities require the RCMC to process shipments of agricultural goods out of India.

• Claiming Benefits: Necessary to avail of various government subsidies, financial assistance, and export incentives under the Agriculture Export Policy.

• Market Development: Required for participating in international trade fairs, buyer-seller meets, and training programs organized by the board.

• Quality Certification: Mandatory if you seek to export products under the Organic Certification program or require specific quality seals for processed foods.

Required Documents

• Import-Export Code (IEC): Self-attested copy of the certificate issued by DGFT.

• PAN Card: Of the company, partnership firm, or proprietor.

• GST Registration: Copy of the GSTIN certificate.

• Bank Certificate: A certificate signed by your bank manager or a cancelled cheque from the business account.

• Bank Statement: Latest bank account statement (typically for the last 2 months).

• Business Proof: Partnership Deed, Certificate of Incorporation, or Trust Deed (as applicable).

• FSSAI License: Mandatory for exporters of processed food products.

• MSME/Udyam Registration: Optional, but helpful for claiming specific small-business incentives.
